Refinance Debt

Political Exercises

1.    Engine Company Alpha needs to raise funds to pay the heating bill for their department for the entire winter.  It is determined they'll need to raise an additional $2,500.  They decide that they will sell 50-50 tickets, but they don't have any advertising money, nor sufficient manpower to sell the tickets.

    A)  How can they employ intra-agency politics to get assistance?

    B)  How can they employ local level politics to get assistance?

    C)  How can they employ community politics to get assistance?

    D)  How can they employ area politics to get assistance?

    E)  How can they employ regional politics to get assistance?

2.    Engine Company Alpha is short on manpower and needs to recruit new volunteers.  Engine Company Alpha has a critical recruitment need, because they're not getting enough response turnout to safely roll the apparatus out of the bay doors and on a couple of occasions, they didn't respond due to this manpower shortage, which caused dispatch to send a mutual aid company.  The local newspaper wrote an article saying that Engine Company Alpha isn't responding to alarms and is wondering how the community donations money is being spent, if Engine Company Alpha cannot get their apparatus out of the bay doors to respond.

    A)    How does Engine Company Alpha need to exercise politics to launch an aggressive and effective recruitment campaign?

    B)    How does Engine Company Alpha need to exercise politics to buffer the bad newspaper publicity?

3.    Engine Company Beta is going to have a spaghetti dinner to raise some additional general funds.  Between their active members, life members and ladies auxiliary, they have plenty of manpower, but wish to get a good turnout to make the day long endeavor and all the preparation efforts worth the while.

    A)  How can they use politics, along with resource identification and development, to get sufficient advertising and turnout to make the spaghetti dinner fundraiser a success?

4.     Combined Company Charlie needs a new pumper.  Refurbishing is no longer an option.

    A)  How can they employ politics at various levels to secure the funding necessary to obtain their new pumper?

5.    Engine Company Alpha and Engine Company Beta want to get a much needed rehab unit that has never existed for either of them or other departments in the area.  Each decides they're going to write for a state grant, an AFG grant, solicit the municipality for the down payment, and try to raise funds through other means.

    A)    How does Engine Company Alpha and Engine Company Beta both need to employ the "Pragmatic Principles of Positive Politics".

6.    Truck Company Delta has successfully lobbied the municipality for a new Quint, to replace their 30 year old ladder truck.  Ah . . . and she's a real parade trophy winning beauty, that does everything but make the morning coffee for the firehouse.  The Quint is on order and will be delivered in about 5 months, upon completion of its construction.  Only one problem . . . the new Quint won't fit in the existing firehouse bay, so an attached building (taller & longer) needs to be built to house the new apparatus...OOPS!

    A)    How does Truck Company Delta now need to employ politics at various levels to get the funds and assistance needed to build the new annex, while having to publicly admit they got the municipality committed to a $750,000 purchase for a piece of apparatus they don't have anywhere to house it?

7.    EMS/Rescue Company Epsilon needs to replace their ambulances, due to mileage, reliability and the increasing maintenance costs.  EMS/Rescue Company Epsilon does get money from insurance companies for providing their service.  They are part of the local VFD, so they are part of a tax exemption status.

    A)    How do they need to employ politics to get their new ambulances, when everybody thinks they're a rich company, that makes a lot of money for each ambulance run they make, which are many per day.

8.    Engine Company Alpha, Engine Company Beta and Combined Company Charlie are facing critical manpower shortages.  Although they have many alternatives, they decide the best solution is for them to merge and become one company.  Engine Company Alpha has an aged pumper as does Engine Company Beta.  Combined Company Charlie has the rescue and EMS service for which they make money and have a small paid staff.  This merger will require the purchase of land, construction of a new building, purchase of new apparatus, consolidation of debts, agreement with the municipality (who own the existing stations and major apparatus), and agreement with the members of each company, although the municipality could impose the merger.

    A)    How do these three (3) companies need to employ politics at all levels to successfully complete their decision to merge?
